Learning to lead ourselves take a lifetime. At the same time, we need to learn to lead others.

For Ezra had set his heart to study the law of the Lord and to practice it, and to teach His statues and ordinances in Israel. Ezra 7:10

Whenever we read the word “for”, we need to know the context. v9 gives the context. “the good hand of his God was upon him.

3 things Ezra did with the Word of God, study, practice and teach.

In Ezra 7:6, we read that Ezra has favour from the king. It was a divine intervention.

Ezra 7:21,King Artaxerxes decreed that whatever needed by Ezra is to be given to him.

Ezra 8:18, again we see hand of God is upon them. We want God’s hand upon our lives.

Ezra 8:31, the hand of God was over his people and delivered them from the enemies.

How to be an effective leader? By having God’s hand upon our lives.

  1. Study (2 Tim 2:15)
  2. Practice (haade)
  3. Teach

In Mat 28:19-20, we see 4 verbs. Making disciple is the main thing. Whatever we do in the church, it should be to make disciples and the end product should be Christ-like.

Paradigm Shift

  • From preaching to making disciples (Mt 28:19-20) The main task of a pastor is not to preach but to make disciples.
  • From clergy to lay people (Epj 4:11-12)
  • From classroom traiing of life mentoring (Mk 3:14)
  • From big group to small group (Acts 4:26) – we need support.
  • From addition to multiplication (2 Tim 2:2)
